The EU took care of the fate of Euroclear after the decision of the Russian court on the seizure of assets

The EU is considering options to support the Euroclear depository against the background of a Moscow court decision allowing the Russian Central Bank to withdraw its assets. This is reported by Bloomberg.

"The EU ... is in the early stages of assessing ways to help the clearing company Euroclear Ltd. after the decision of the Moscow court allowed the Central Bank of Russia to potentially withdraw its assets. This happened after The EU has approved the use of emergency powers to indefinitely extend the freezing of assets of the Central Bank of Russia in the amount of up to 210 billion euros ($ 245 billion). Most of these funds are stored through Euroclear," the publication says.

The European Union intends to keep assets immobilized until the end of the war and the payment of reparations by Russia to Ukraine, the agency reminds. Several member states, including Belgium, opposed all attempts by Brussels to completely withdraw Russian assets.

As reported by EADaily, the largest European depository Euroclear appealed in court against the recovery of 200 billion euros on the claim of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation. This was stated by his representative in court, lawyer Maxim Kulkov.

On May 15, the Moscow Arbitration Court fully satisfied the Central Bank's claim against Euroclear, collecting losses in seven currencies from the defendant in the total amount of about 200 billion euros. Five days later, the Ninth Arbitration Court of Appeal on the claim of First Management Company JSC demanded about 32 billion rubles more from the Belgian Euroclear Bank.

Recall, bailiffs forcibly recover more than 25 billion rubles from Euroclear Bank. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the materials of the FSSP.

Since October 2024, 47 enforcement proceedings have been initiated against the company to collect this amount. The basis was the writ of execution and orders issued by the Arbitration Courts of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Tatarstan.
