Russia may break the agreement with Armenia on duty-free gas supplies unilaterally. This is reported by Kommersant with reference to the letter of the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Sergey Tsivilev sent by the Ministry of Economy of Armenia.
According to the newspaper, Moscow may unilaterally suspend or denounce the agreement on duty-free supplies of gas, petroleum products and rough diamonds to Armenia if they continue their policy of rapprochement with the European Union. Moscow believes that Armenia's further progress towards the European Union jeopardizes the basis of bilateral trade, economic and investment cooperation.
As EADaily reported, if Armenia joins the EU, it will lose favorable terms of cooperation with Russia. This was stated on May 25 by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
According to him, the question of choosing the further path of economic integration of Armenia remains open.
