The visit of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico to Moscow to participate in the Victory Parade caused discontent among European politicians, Euractiv portal writes.
"This visit takes place against the background of the fact that his (Fico's) attempt to present himself as a recalcitrant pro-Russian figure within the European Union is being tested by Brussels and internal pressure," the article says.
According to the portal, Brussels has already warned Bratislava about problems with financing the Slovak Agricultural Payments Agency (PPA), which will hit farmers.
Earlier, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Fico was waiting for a conversation about his visit to Moscow on Victory Day. Fico, among other foreign leaders, arrived in Moscow to celebrate the 81st anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
On Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin held separate talks with Fico in the Kremlin. Issues of interaction between the two countries in various spheres and prospects for the resumption of the work of the bilateral intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, whose meetings have not been held since 2021, were discussed.
