Russian President Vladimir Putin would prefer to negotiate with Europe through Gerhardt Schroeder. He told reporters at a press conference following meetings with foreign leaders who came to celebrate Victory Day.
This is how he commented on Europe's latest initiatives for negotiations with Russia.
"For me personally, the former Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr. Schroeder, is preferable. Well, as it is, let them choose a European, a leader they trust and who has not said any nasty things about us. Please, we have never been closed from negotiations. Never. It wasn't us who refused, but they refused," Putin said, quoted by the Strana newspaper.
