Drought is intensifying in Poland, which threatens crops and groundwater levels. This was reported in Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan.
According to hydrogeologist Jozef Gursky, the current situation is exceptional and is the result of several years of insufficient precipitation.
"Indeed, the situation is record-breaking. In the last few years, precipitation infiltration has been limited, and this was reflected primarily in watercourses and lakes, because this is what determines the recharge of these reservoirs. But now the situation with the so-called atmospheric and soil drought is very difficult. Precipitation is very weak," he said.
According to the Institute of Metrology and Water Management of Poland (IMGW), low water levels will prevail on Polish rivers in the coming days, and the expected precipitation will not lead to a significant improvement in the hydrological situation. In this regard, hydrological drought has already been declared in seven zones, including the basins of the upper Warta with Lisvarta, upper Notetsi, Ina and Ploni, Radomka, as well as Rudava and Pradnik with the Vistula coast.
