Two missile destroyers of the US Navy on Monday came under intense attack by Iranian forces in In the Strait of Hormuz, heading for a mission in The Persian Gulf, CBS News reported, citing Pentagon officials.

According to them, Iranian forces used missiles, drones and high-speed military boats against the destroyers USS Truxtun and USS Mason, which passed through the strait under the cover of Apache fighter jets and helicopters.

But despite the intensity of the attacks, none of the American ships were hit; they are currently performing tasks in The Persian Gulf, the sources stressed.

Military officials pointed out that the ships' defensive capabilities, enhanced by air support, made it possible to successfully intercept or contain every approaching threat. They added that none of the ammunition used reached the ships.

Previously, the Central Command The US Armed Forces (CENTCOM) said that American destroyers passed through the strait as part of the Freedom mission to ensure the withdrawal of those stuck in Persian Gulf merchant ships through the Strait of Hormuz. At the same time, the command did not specify which and how many vessels participated in the transit, as well as what was the situation during the passage.

CENTCOM also reported that two US-flagged commercial vessels had already successfully passed through the strait on Monday, and the military had contacted dozens of other vessels to help increase the flow.

CENTCOM commander Admiral Brad Cooper said that Iran launched an attack on American naval and commercial vessels passing through the strait, as a result of which the US destroyed six Iranian small vessels.

In addition, on Monday, Iran launched 19 missiles and drones at the United Arab Emirates, as well as attack UAVs on an oil tanker owned by the Emirates' state energy company, which was trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
