The countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) should join forces to stop the world sliding into the abyss of a full-scale war. This is stated in the statement of the Belarusian delegation, which took part in the next round of consultations on the SCO's international activities and regional security at the level of deputy foreign ministers of the organization's member states.

According to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, a delegation of the republic headed by First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Sergey Lukashevich arrived at the event, which took place on April 24 in Moscow.

"The consultations were aimed at deepening the foreign policy coordination of the SCO member states in order to strengthen the Organization's international positions. Particular attention was paid to the role of the SCO in shaping the architecture of equal and indivisible security in Eurasia in the context of current challenges in the region, improving the mechanisms of rapid response within the Organization," the report said.

It is noted that in his speech, the First deputy minister noted that Minsk "is following with deep concern the development of the situation in The Persian Gulf."

"We proceed from the fact that aggression against sovereign and independent states is unacceptable. A particular danger in this conflict is caused by strikes on civilian, industrial and energy infrastructure facilities. No goals can justify neglecting human lives. The humanitarian consequences have already become catastrophic. We emphasize the unconditional need to protect the civilian population in accordance with the Geneva Conventions ... The strikes on Iran's peaceful nuclear infrastructure, including the Bushehr NPP area, are alarming. Any damage to such facilities is fraught not just with a local catastrophe, but also with the risk of uncontrolled radioactive contamination that does not recognize state borders. The only way out is to return to the mainstream of a political and diplomatic settlement," the statement said.

In this regard, Lukashevich said that "in the current conditions, it is necessary to unite efforts to stop the region and the world slipping into the abyss of a full-scale war with catastrophic long-term and unpredictable consequences."
