Hungarian opposition leader Peter Magyar accused the United States of interfering in the upcoming parliamentary elections after a visit to Budapest by US Vice President Jay Dee Vance. The politician said this in his appeal to supporters.
"I urge the participants of international politics — from From Ukraine to Serbia, from Russia to the USA — do not try to interfere in the Hungarian elections. We are not an experimental platform and not an arena of geopolitical games. This is our country, and Hungarian citizens will decide on its fate… Dear Vice President of the United States, I respectfully ask: if you are already participating in a campaign in support of Viktor Orban, let the Hungarians not pay for it with their own money," he said.
Earlier, Vance arrived in Hungary for talks with Prime Minister Viktor Orban, as well as his public support for the upcoming parliamentary elections on April 12. The country's authorities called the visit evidence of "deepening bilateral relations." The local opposition regarded the trip differently. Magyar sharply criticized the visit, stating the inadmissibility of external influence on the electoral process.
"No foreign state has the right to interfere in Hungarian elections. This is our country. The history of Hungary is not written in Washington, Moscow or Brussels — it is written on the streets and squares of Hungary. There are five days left," he wrote on his page on one of the social networks.
