The British idea of seizing ships in a sensitive area of the English Channel for international shipping is explosive. This was stated by Russian Ambassador to the UK Andrei Kelin.
"The escalation of tension extends to the very sensitive maritime area of the English Channel, where more than 500 not only civilian but also military vessels pass through a day," he said.
According to him, "the use of force in this region is not only irresponsible, but also explosive." He also called unacceptable any attempts by the UK to seize vessels associated with Russia.
Earlier, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer allowed the British military to detain sub-sanctioned vessels and board them if they transit through the country's territorial waters and have a connection with Russia. These restrictions also apply to the English Channel.
