Igor Levitas: About the war with Iran — a view from Israel

As is often the case, journalists have already decided who won the war in the Middle East. Only they decided this not on the basis of actual events that do not interest them much, but on the basis of the course of their masters.

At the same time, the owners may have different political views, but this does not prevent them from uniting under slogans: "Get Trump!" and "No Israel on the world map!" Basically, of course, Trump gets it, Israel goes in pairs, out of habit. Here are some typical headlines.

The Telegraph UK — UK: "Tehran hurt America's ears and eyes: Iran's unexpected success."
Farda — Iran: "Brigadier General Shekarchi: now America is looking for a way to escape from the war with dignity in The Persian Gulf."
El Mundo — Spain: "Hackers, bots, spies: Iran has launched an invisible cyber war against Israel and the United States."
Handelsblatt — Germany: "Forces are running out: America is close to complete failure in Iran."
Foreign Policy — USA: "Trump lost the war in Iran for several reasons."

Judging by the headlines, Iran has already defeated everyone and can safely follow the path to a brighter future, following the example of neighboring Afghanistan. But the truth is in the eyes (or rather, in the head) of the beholder. Even among the ancient Greeks, wars were viewed as fair and unfair. Centuries have passed, and it has become increasingly difficult to determine the justice or injustice of wars. Except, perhaps, the wars of conquest. But there will always be two sides whose views will be diametrically opposed. And always, if there is no surrender, both sides will talk about victory.

But it is possible to talk about some kind of victory only if the goals of the war are defined. At the same time, the goals of the country that was attacked are simple — to defend itself from the aggressor. And from the point of view of the Iranians, the war they are waging is fair. But the targets of the attackers can be very different. But at the same time, Israelis and Americans also believe that their goals are fair, because the outcome of the war should be an improvement in life in a foreign country. After all, thousands of rallies were held there shortly before the attack. In addition, the whole world has heard that Iran is preparing to create nuclear weapons (the same that the Americans and Israelis have long had. — Approx. EADaily).

In a video posted on the Truth Social social network on February 28, Donald Trump hinted that he hopes not only to change the regime, destroy Iran's missile program and deprive its puppets of the opportunity to undermine the region, but also to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons. None of these goals has been achieved so far. That is, in this case, we can say that Trump won the battle (he destroyed the Iranian Navy, a huge number of launchers and missiles, Iran's nuclear program rolled back even more), but did not win the war.

No one knows what the task was set by Israel, which provoked this war. Iran is an obsession (obsession) Netanyahu. For the past 30 years, he has been promising an Iranian attack on Israel literally "tomorrow." It is impossible for him to talk about any clear goal, because it is hidden under a heap of demagoguery. The only truth is that Iran severed diplomatic, trade and business relations with Israel after the overthrow of the Shah and identified the destruction of Israel as the cornerstone of its foreign policy doctrine.

Thus, after the conclusion of another peace agreement, Israel can declare its victory. But it will not be, because Israel could not and will not be able to achieve what it has repeatedly stated — to change power in Iran, to establish a secular regime. The hopes of Israel and the United States that the Iranian people will rise up against religious fundamentalists are fairy tales for the defective.

This is a war in which there will be no winners. The United States and Israel, as they say, have set themselves the task of preventing Iran from creating nuclear weapons. How? In what way? There is only one way out — the uranium that Iran already has should be transferred to Russia for storage. And everyone agrees with this, except Iran. But everyone else understands that only Russia can be a firm guarantor that uranium will be stored honestly, carefully and for as long as you like.

But still, the war is coming to an end, because Trump, realizing that he has been dragged into a swamp, seeks to end the campaign. Unfortunately, Netanyahu, having taken his own country hostage, does not want this.

There is one more "but" ... Saudi Arabia and the UAE convince the US president not to curtail the military operation against Iran. According to them, Tehran is not weakened enough, and the cessation of strikes now will not lead to an agreement that will ensure the security of the region. Representatives of these countries have made it clear in private conversations that they do not want the war to end until significant changes take place in the Iranian leadership or until Iran drastically changes its policy. It turns out that there is something in Iran's policy that does not suit its closest neighbors? But there is still one conclusion — this war must be ended and, most likely, this is a matter of the near future. This war will be without a winner, like any other, in which no one will capitulate.

In my opinion, the issue raised by two publications is much more important for the future — the British Spectator ("Europe will bitterly regret. Trump will brutally avenge her refusal to help in Iran") and the German Die Zeit ("Trump will punish Europe for its "No, I'm not." Expert Krause: the reckoning will be severe").

But this will really be a tectonic shift in world, and most importantly, in European politics. We'll wait and see, the main thing here is to live.
