US President Donald Trump has told aides that he is ready to complete the operation against Iran, even if the Strait of Hormuz remains largely closed, according to the Wall Street Journal newspaper, citing US administration officials.
"Trump has told aides that he is ready to end the US military campaign against Iran, even if the Strait of Hormuz remains largely closed," the newspaper writes.
The US-Israeli operation against Iran has been going on for a month. All this time the parties are exchanging blows. The aggravation of the conflict has led to an almost complete cessation of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz — a key route for the supply of oil and LNG from Arab countries.
On Thursday, Donald Trump announced that, allegedly at the request of Tehran, he ordered the suspension of strikes on Iranian energy facilities until April 6.
The day before, The New York Times reported that the United States had handed over a 15-point conflict settlement plan to Iran. Among them are Tehran's rejection of its nuclear program and support for proxies in other countries, the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and limiting the number and range of missiles. In return, Washington offered the lifting of sanctions and assistance in the development of a peaceful atom, in particular at the Bushehr nuclear power plant. As reported by Press TV, Tehran did not accept the plan and put forward its own conditions.
