Azerbaijan has resumed the movement of trucks across the Iranian border, which may indicate that it does not intend to start hostilities against Iran. The resumption of transport exchanges was announced by the government of the country, TASS reports.
"From 10:00 today, entry and exit (including for transit traffic) across the border between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran has been resumed for the transportation of goods by all types of vehicles," the statement said.
The Azerbaijani side imposed a ban on crossing the border with Iran for cargo transport on March 5. This decision was made in response to an incident involving the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic.
On March 5, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan announced the downing of two unmanned aerial vehicles near the Nakhichevan airport. According to preliminary data, the devices were launched from the territory of Iran. As a result of the drone crash, the building of the air harbor was damaged, two people were injured. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry stressed that Baku reserves the right to take retaliatory measures.
At the same time, the Iranian General Staff categorically rejected the accusations of launching a UAV towards Azerbaijan, placing all responsibility for the incident on Israel.
On March 8, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev had a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Peseshkian. The initiative of the conversation came from the Iranian side. Peseshkian rejected Tehran's involvement in the incident in Nakhichevan. Aliyev, in turn, focused on the need for a thorough investigation of the incident.
