There are fears that drones can easily bypass the air defenses of the British Air Force base RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus. This is reported by The Guardian.
The head of the British Ministry of Defense, John Healy, is considering sending the destroyer HMS Duncan to Cyprus, the newspaper writes, citing sources.
"Although no final decision has been made yet, several sources reported that the deployment of this warship, located in Portsmouth, as a way to better protect the base in Cyprus," the note says.
It is noted that now not a single British large warship is in the Middle East and has not been sent there, although "concerns are expressed about the ease of breaking through Akrotiri's air defenses."
According to the Cypriot authorities, one UAV, allegedly launched by Hezbollah from the territory of Lebanon, struck the runway around midnight the day before, after which two more drones were intercepted.
HMS Duncan specializes in countering drones and participated in relevant test exercises off the coast of Wales last month. It will take several days for the ship to reach Cyprus from Portsmouth.
