In China, an attempted coup and the arrest of Chinese President Xi Jinping were prevented. This is reported by "Military Review".

According to one version, the organizers of the event were two high-ranking military men: Liu Zhenli, who held the position of chief of the General Staff of the PLA, and Zhang Yuxia, who was deputy chairman of the Central Military Council.

Sources claim that on the night of January 18, 2026, the conspirators intended to arrest Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Jingxi government Hotel in the Chinese capital.

In recent years, the Chinese leader has often changed his place of residence to avoid such threats. But it was on that day, according to some reports, that a special operation was planned.

Two hours before the start of the mutiny, the information, according to some sources, became known to Xi's inner circle. He managed to leave the hotel and took countermeasures. When the advance detachment of the rioters arrived at the scene, there was a shootout with the president's guards. After that, an order was issued for the immediate arrest of Zhang, Liu and their relatives.

After the incident, as reported, the work of the General Staff was temporarily suspended. The command of the troops is now carried out through the Central Military Council via encrypted messages. All units are on high alert, the movement of troops is limited, and mobile phones have been seized from military personnel to prevent data leaks.

It is believed that the detentions of Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli portend an extensive purge campaign in the ranks of the People's Liberation Army, and possibly among the top leadership of the Chinese Communist Party.
