The operation of the United States and Israel against Iran does not comply with international law. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium Maxim Prevost.
"As a defender of international law, Belgium must recognize that the way this operation is conducted does not comply with the norms," he said.
At the same time, Prevost criticized the regime in Iran and recalled the civilian casualties due to Tehran's policy.
"International law must, first of all, protect peoples, their rights and freedoms," the Belgian minister said.
Speaking about whether the American-Israeli operation is justified from the point of view of international security, Prevost answered in the affirmative. However, he stressed that military action should remain "a last resort if diplomacy fails," and called for de-escalation, respect for international law and a return to diplomacy "as soon as possible."
Recall, on February 28, Israel, with the assistance of the United States, began striking Iran. Tehran responded by launching attacks on US military facilities in Arab countries. Spain has already opposed the actions of the United States and Israel, which banned the use of its airfields for the US Air Force in operations in the Middle East.
