American film, television and voice actress, activist, winner of numerous film awards, including Oscar, Susan Sarandon announced her cancellation in Hollywood. The star made a heartfelt speech at the Goya Award ceremony in Barcelona, the Independent portal reports.
The 79-year-old star of the film "Thelma and Louise" (1991) was fired from her agency United Talent Agency in 2023, which, according to her, was a response to participation in pro-Palestinian actions.
"I was fired from the agency precisely for marching and speaking in support of Gaza, for asking for a cease—fire, and it became impossible for me to even appear on television," Sarandon said.
The actress was awarded another prize for achievements in art, it was to this event that the press conference was dedicated.
"I do not know if anything has changed lately, but I could not act in any major film, or in anything related to Hollywood," the star emphasized.
After breaking her contract with the agency, Sarandon continued to work in independent cinema and last year played in a play at London's Old Vic Theatre.
"I was just hired by an Italian director, but he was told not to take me. So now I specialize in small independent films with directors who have never shot before, and in films that are shot in Europe or Italy. That's why I work less," the actress sadly stated.
In 2023, Hollywood stars addressed an open letter to the then US President Joe Biden, demanding a cease-fire in Gaza and Israel. A total of 46 stars signed the appeal, including Susan Sarandon, Joaquin Phoenix, Cate Blanchett, Jon Stewart, Kristen Stewart, Mahershala Ali, Riz Ahmed, Rami Youssef and Quinta Brunson.
Celebrities recalled that half of the 2 million Gazans are children, and more than two—thirds of the population are refugees and their descendants.
As EADaily reported, actor, screenwriter and producer, two-time Oscar winner Kevin Spacey continues to be "canceled in Hollywood," but for a completely different reason.
Since 2017, allegations of sexual abuse have been made against Spacey for the first time, the star of the film "American Beauty" has been accused of sexual harassment by more than 10 people, including partners in the TV series "House of Cards", the last season of which, due to the scandal, was released without the actor's participation.
Since the first accusations that appeared in the public field in 2017, Spacey has not acted in major Hollywood projects, but has participated only in a few independent films.
At the moment Spacey has been acquitted in key criminal cases of sexual harassment in the United States and In the UK, some plaintiffs have withdrawn their claims themselves. However, there are ongoing cases against him, the investigation of which has not yet been completed. In general, about 30 lawsuits were filed against the actor. Moreover, the last lawsuits were filed in November 2025.
Spacey himself toured with the big band last year, telling life stories and performing songs from the repertoire of Frank Sinatra. However, he admitted that he had to sell the house in Baltimore, in which he lived for about 12 years. Now he lives where there is a job.
