Moscow is anxiously monitoring the "abnormal situation" around the Russian oil tanker Mariner by the US and NATO military. This was announced today, January 6, by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"We are really anxiously monitoring the abnormal situation around the Russian oil tanker Mariner. Currently, our vessel is sailing in the international waters of the North Atlantic under the state flag of the Russian Federation and in full compliance with the norms of international maritime law. At the same time, for reasons we do not understand, the Russian watercraft is receiving increased attention from the US and NATO military, which is clearly not commensurate with its peaceful status. For several days now, for "The US Coast Guard ship follows the mariner, although our vessel is separated from the American coast by about 4 thousand km," the statement said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that they expect that "Western countries that declare their commitment to freedom of navigation on the high seas will start with themselves when implementing this principle."

Recall, the United States imposed a blockade of Venezuela and declared that they would not miss a single oil tanker. At the same time, it was previously reported that until recently the Mariner tanker was called Bella 1. Sources of TV channels claim that the US authorities are discussing the seizure of the vessel. He is considered part of the "shadow fleet" and is accused of transporting a shipment of Venezuelan oil.
