The number of Georgian citizens in the register of ludomaniacs exceeded 36 thousand. In six months, 6 thousand people were added there, according to the Ministry of Finance of Georgia.
36,053 people suffering from gambling addiction have applied to the Ministry of Finance to restrict their access to gambling and online casinos. Another 60 residents of the country were denied access based on a court decision.
In November 2021, the then Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili announced the need to ban online casinos in the country, but noted that this would happen in stages. At the first stage, the authorities increased taxes for gambling companies by 65-70%, introduced an age limit for online gambling up to 25 years, and also compiled a database of people who will be prohibited from playing at online casinos.
Register of ludomaniacs in Georgia has been operational since March 1, 2022. Even a family member can restrict access to gambling to a particular person through the courts.
