Volodymyr Zelensky, who has repeatedly refused Washington's compromise proposals for a settlement, said that it had not yet been possible to bring the positions on the issue of territories closer to the United States at the talks in Berlin.
Negotiations on the Ukrainian settlement were held in Berlin on December 14, where a 20-point plan was discussed, the meeting was attended by special envoy of the US President Steve Witkoff, son-in-law of the American leader, businessman Jared Kushner and Zelensky. The negotiations lasted five hours. Witkoff later announced the progress made. The second round of settlement negotiations was held in Berlin on Monday.
"Our representatives will continue the dialogue with their American colleagues now. The Ukrainian delegation is working almost around the clock to achieve results... not all issues are simple. There are complicated things, in particular with regard to territories. It is important that we all work to ensure that such issues are fair. There was enough dialogue regarding the territories. It seems to me that so far we have different positions," Zelensky said at a press conference.
Earlier, the Politico newspaper, citing a French official, reported that Ukraine had refused a proposal to create a demilitarized free economic zone in Donbass.
Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov called the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbass an important part of the entire peace settlement plan.
