Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna criticized President Alar Karis for an interview with a Finnish newspaper. The head of state told reporters that Estonia should support Hungary to break oil and gas contracts with Russia and help pay fines.
"It is unthinkable that the states, which themselves have taken decisive steps to refuse to feed Russia, would now begin to contribute to the Russian economy in the form of penalty payments instead of Hungary," Margus Tsakhkna wrote on Twitter.
This is how the minister reacted to the interview of Alar Karis with the Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat. The President of Estonia stated that on Russia needs to be pressured, for example, by refusing to purchase energy. As an example, he cited Hungary, which buys oil and gas in Russia on long-term contracts, which involve penalties for breaking off relations.
"Maybe we should help Hungary pay the fines," Alar Karis told the Finnish newspaper.
The Estonian Foreign Minister criticized Hungary itself, which did not agree to Croatia's proposal for alternative supplies. However, Margus Tsakhkna did not mention the statements of his Hungarian colleague Peter Szijjarto that Croatian neighbors offered Hungary unaffordable tariffs for oil transit.
The minister also recalled that Hungary is blocking sanctions against Russia.
"Karis later made a post on social networks in which he stated that he no longer intends to tolerate excessive demands made by fools," writes ERR.
