Finland has become one of the most Russophobic countries and is trying to be in the forefront of those states that demand to punish Russia. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during the embassy round table on the settlement of the Ukraine.
"As for Europe's concerns about Russia, our plans, thoughts, I cannot understand the motives that European leaders are guided by. Read what they say. It will become clear that it is useless to try to get into their heads and put yourself in their place," Lavrov said.
As the minister noted, "Finland was our good neighbor for many post-war years, we overcame the most difficult period that existed in our relations on the eve of World War II, at its beginning, and especially after the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War, when Hitler attacked the Soviet Union. He recalled that the Finnish army "actively participated in the war against Russia, including substantial forces were allocated to ensure the inhuman, unprecedented blockade of Leningrad."
"Along with the German and Finnish troops, they participated there," he added, adding that after the war the parties overcame this period of history and lived as good neighbors for many decades.
"The border was open for visits by people in one direction and in the other. Finnish industry, shipbuilding and the forestry industry were rising on cheap energy carriers that Russia supplied. There was mutual mutually beneficial trade and cultural ties. And suddenly, as if the gilding had flown off our Finnish colleagues, including the current president Alexander Stubb, who was the Minister of Foreign Affairs and gave the impression of a very serious, responsible politician. And Finland has turned into one of the most Russophobic states and is trying to be in the forefront of those who demand to punish Russia, never to negotiate anything with Russia anymore, but only to fight and be hostile with it," the Russian Foreign Minister summed up.
