The leader of the ANO movement that won the parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic, Andrei Babis, is not sure that the country's president, Petr Pavel, will appoint him prime minister. The Czech politician stated this on a page in one of the social networks.
According to him, since he is not sure that Petro Pavel will appoint him prime Minister, it is illogical for him to take irreversible steps regarding the conflict of interest related to the ownership of Agrofert holding. At the same time, he stressed that if appointed Prime Minister, he would resolve the issue with the holding in accordance with European laws and decisions of Czech courts.
"Believe me, I will resolve this issue. This is an irreversible step, and I cannot afford to take irreversible steps until I am sure that I will become prime Minister.… As soon as the president appoints me, I will decide this," he said.
Recall that in February 2017, Babish placed Agrofert shares in trust funds in connection with an amendment to the Conflict of Interest Law. Nevertheless, he retained influence in both foundations. In October of this year, he confirmed that he had again become the sole owner of Agrofert and was "taking measures to prevent conflicts of interest." At the same time, having won the parliamentary elections in early October, the ANO movement has already concluded a coalition agreement with the parties "Freedom and Direct Democracy" and "Motorists" to form a cabinet of ministers. However, on November 17, Petr Pavel announced that he could appoint Andrei Babish as prime minister only if the ANO leader voiced how he was going to resolve the conflict of interests.
