The winner of the New York mayoral election, Zohran Mamdani, said that the city police would not cooperate with the US Immigration Service (ICE).
"My NYPD will continue to not assist ICE when they are trying to intimidate New Yorkers in all five districts," Mamdani told Spectrum News.
Mamdani had previously won the New York mayoral election. He became the youngest mayor in this century and the first Muslim in this post. Mamdani advocates the creation of shops with cheap products, the freezing of rental prices for part of housing in the city and the abolition of bus fares.
US President Donald Trump said that his administration intends to continue to fight crime in New York after Mamdani's victory.
