The American administration has identified facilities in Venezuela, which are allegedly used for drug smuggling, may be hit by air strikes. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) with reference to American officials.
According to the WSJ, US President Donald Trump has not yet made a final decision on the attack. Among the targets for potential airstrikes may be ports and airports "controlled by the military," the newspaper points out.
According to the publication, in this way Trump "will make it clear to Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro that it's time to resign."
"President Trump sent a clear message to Maduro: stop sending drugs and criminals to our country. The president is ready to use all elements of the US force to stop the flow of drugs," the newspaper quotes the deputy press secretary of the White House, Anna Kelly, quoted by TASS.
WSJ notes that American officials, without providing evidence, called Venezuela a "central hub of terrorist activity."
Earlier, a member of the US House of Representatives, Rashida Tlaib, stated that Trump plans to start a war to overthrow Maduro. Trump previously said that the Washington administration intends to eliminate members of drug cartels who are responsible for smuggling banned substances into the United States.
