On the eve of the imposition of sanctions against Rosneft and Lukoil, Western media continue to monitor the supply of Russian oil to India. The British Financial Times claims that the company of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, who lives in London, bought Russian oil, which was delivered by tankers under sanctions.
According to The Financial Times, Guru Gobind Singh refinery in Bathinda, Punjab, received at least four shipments of crude oil worth almost $280 million using tankers under sanctions.
The plant, co-owned by Lakshmi Mittal, can process 11 million tons of oil per year and is the tenth largest in India. And vessels under sanctions participated in the delivery of Russian oil at least four times, the British edition writes.
According to him, the sanctioned vessels delivered raw materials from Murmansk to the shores of Oman, where they were loaded onto "clean" tankers. The Financial Times refers to satellite images.
At the same time, the publication noted that the organizer of the transactions is unknown, as well as whether HPCL—Mittal Energy Limited, which owns the refinery, knew about the supply chain.
