China has consistently opposed unilateral sanctions that are not based on international law and are not authorized by the UN Security Council. This was stated by the representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Guo Jiakong, commenting on the US threats against countries buying Russian oil.
"Dialogue and negotiations remain the only viable way to solve the Ukrainian "crisis", coercion and pressure will not solve a single problem," the representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
The statement was made against the background of information from the British agency Reuters that Chinese state-owned companies allegedly refuse Russian hydrocarbons.
As EADaily reported, at the upcoming meeting in South Korea, US President Donald Trump intends to hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping about China's purchases of Russian oil, as well as a possible settlement of the conflict on Ukraine.
The day before, the American president announced that he was canceling plans to organize a meeting with Vladimir Putin and would impose additional sanctions to increase pressure on the Russian leader.
