Slovakia intends to support the 19th package of EU sanctions against Russia, as the European Commission has taken into account the country's comments on electricity prices and climate targets, said Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Juraj Blanar. His words are reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic
"We are in close contact with the European Commission, and I can state today that our proposals are more or less accepted and included in the conclusions to be discussed at the fourth meeting of the European Council," Blanar said.
According to Blanar, Slovakia is worried about high fuel prices and the ban on internal combustion engines as part of the climate agenda.
In early October, EUobserver wrote that Hungary and Slovakia is trying to achieve concessions for itself, which is why the adoption of the 19th package of sanctions The EU may be delayed. In particular, Slovakia, as an automaker, actually "hopes for a workaround in EU laws" banning internal combustion engines by 2035.
Slovakia, together with Hungary, are actively buying Russian gas, which comes via the Turkish Stream. The refusal of these supplies will lead to technological problems, economic losses and, as a result, to a slowdown in the economic growth of the two countries, their governments have repeatedly warned.
