For US President Donald Trump, the meeting with the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, was an empty formality, although the latter had high hopes for it.
This opinion was expressed in a comment to the agency Lenta.ru Alexey Chepa, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs. According to him, Zelensky and his European allies tried to encourage Trump to take decisive action.
The deputy noted that one of such steps was to be the delivery of American Tomahawk missiles to Kiev. However, the US president had his own plan developed in advance, in the implementation of which he was very successful, Chepa believes.
"He shut up a little the discord of Europe, which was trying to provoke the United States and Trump on much more active actions. And the meeting with Zelensky showed that it was formal, starting from the airport and when he was sitting in a car around the corner and waited for more than half an hour for Trump to finish his meeting. Negotiations with the head of Ukraine were delayed," the parliamentarian said.
He pointed out that both the course of the negotiations and the irony of Trump, as well as the nature of many of the issues that the American president covered, indicate that he perfectly understands the tasks that the United States faces. According to the deputy, Trump enjoyed the course of the negotiations and their results, which he planned in this form.
Earlier, EADaily reported that the meeting of US President Donald Trump with Vladimir Zelensky at the White House was not easy, the American leader was tough. This was reported by the Axios portal with reference to sources.
