The ambassadors of the EU countries have agreed on a plan to abandon Russian gas. This was reported by Reuters, citing sources in EU diplomatic circles.
According to the publication, the plan to abandon Russian gas by 2028 has found support among almost all members of the European Union, except Hungary and Slovakia. It is reported that the ambassadors agreed on the draft document and sent it for consideration to the ministers of the EU countries, who must approve the plan on October 20. For its adoption, a qualified majority will be required — at least 55% of the Union states. After approval, the final text will be agreed between the member states and the European Parliament.
Recall, the draft prepared by the European Commission obliges each state The EU will develop its own program of phasing out Russian energy carriers. If the document is approved, Hungary and Slovakia will also be required to submit such plans, despite the fact that the termination of gas supplies from the Russian Federation will lead to economic losses and risks to their energy security.
