The West should abandon confrontation, take responsibility for the reconstruction of Afghanistan and compensate for the damage done to the country's economy. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the opening of the seventh meeting of the Moscow format of consultations on Afghanistan.
"Once again, we urge [the West] to adjust the confrontational course, return what was appropriated and take responsibility for the post—conflict reconstruction of Afghanistan, for compensation for the damage caused over the decades to the Afghan economy and infrastructure," the minister said, quoted by TASS.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump threatened the Afghan authorities with "bad things" if they refused to transfer the Bagram airbase to the American side.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko, commenting on Trump's statement, noted that Kabul should make the decision on the Bagram airbase, Moscow is not aware of the Afghans' readiness to accept the Americans again.
The special Representative of the Russian President for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, stressed that Moscow would not discuss "such nonsense" as the US ultimatum statements on the Bagram airbase.
