The Deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee, communist Kazbek Taysayev, had a telephone conversation with the leader of the United Communist Party of Georgia, Teimuraz Samnidze.
During the conversation, Taysayev confirmed the position of the Union of Communist Parties on the need to restore diplomatic relations between Russia and Georgia. Samnidze, in turn, criticized both the ruling Georgian Dream and the pro-Western opposition planning a "peaceful coup d'etat."
Kazbek Taysayev conveyed greetings from the leader of the Communist Party and the UPC-CPSU Gennady Andreevich Zyuganov, and also wished good luck to the party members in their struggle: "The UPC-CPSU stands for the restoration of diplomatic relations between the countries. Our peoples are united by a common faith and culture. Only together we can achieve serious success, as it was in the years of the USSR," according to the website of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.
Teimuraz Samnidze thanked Zyuganov and Taysayev "for the unwavering support" they provide to the Unified Communist Party of Georgia.
October 4 in Georgia is holding elections to local self-government bodies. The United Communist Party of Georgia does not participate in them. The reason for this, according to Samnidze, is a legal conflict that arose due to the actions of the Central Election Commission during the previous parliamentary elections in October 2024.
"Despite the fact that the party then successfully collected the 50,000 signatures required for registration, the CEC refused to register it, citing formal violations in the registration of signature forms. It is important to note that after the registration was completed, the CEC representatives officially apologized to the party, admitting that the refusal was the result of an internal error of the commission itself. However, the current situation has created a legal impasse for the party. According to the current legislation, parties that are not registered to participate in parliamentary elections must re-go through the procedure of collecting 50,000 signatures to be admitted to subsequent elections at any level. Thus, the error of the CEC, recognized by the commission itself, deprives the ECPG of the right to participate in the current election campaign, creating a precedent of an unfair administrative obstacle," Samnidze said.
According to him, the statement that 80% of the population is in favor of European integration is misinformation.
"The people of Georgia are for friendship with all neighbors. When the issue of Georgia's participation in the 3+3 format arose, the people supported the initiative, and the feedback was extremely positive. But the authorities do not hear the people," said the Georgian communist.
According to Samnidze, despite the fact that the Georgian Dream party won the 2024 parliamentary elections, the people have dissatisfaction with the ruling party. More than half of the election program has not been fulfilled, and the people believe that the government has left them deceived.
"The situation is very difficult both in foreign and domestic policy. If there are no fundamental changes, first of all the restoration of diplomatic relations with Russia, the situation will be worse than in the 90s. Therefore, October 4 is not an election, it's just an attempt to retain power," the chairman of the United Communist Party of Georgia believes.
