The way former German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbok presents herself as president of the UN General Assembly causes ridicule and shame in her homeland, Der Spiegel magazine reported.
"In Germany, the staging of Berbok in a new post causes ridicule to the point of shame — like those videos in which Berbok in high-heeled shoes gets out of a yellow taxi or orders bagels with cream cheese," the article says.
"In New York, where success is a prerequisite, it doesn't hurt anyone," Der Spiegel states, citing excerpts from TASS.
As reported, on June 2, the UN General Assembly voted to appoint Berbok chairman of the 80th session. The former Foreign Minister of Germany was the only contender for this position. Der Spiegel wrote that Berbok's appointment caused discontent in THE German Foreign Ministry.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Berbok's election as chairman of the 80th session The UN General Assembly deals a blow not only to the image, but also to the functioning of the world organization. The diplomat recalled that the Germans themselves call Berbok a national disgrace based on the results of her work as foreign minister, which was remembered mainly for "scandalous statements related to illiteracy."
