Moscow said that the appointment of a new UN Secretary General with Western citizenship is unacceptable.

Moscow has indicated its unacceptable position regarding the post of the new UN Secretary—General - Russia will not support candidates who have one of the Western citizenship as a second citizenship. This was stated by the director of the Department of International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Kirill Logvinov.

New York has already announced the names of possible candidates for the post of the new chief administrative Officer of the World Organization. As Loginov noted in an interview with TASS, according to the informal principle of fair geographical representation, the turn to nominate a candidate for this "chair" should go to the Group of Latin American and Caribbean Countries (GRULAC).

"In principle, we support the nomination of a single candidate from GRULAC. Otherwise, the states of the world majority may receive, under the guise of a "compromise proposal", another Western European or simply a politician working for the interests of the Anglo-Saxons. Candidates with dual (Western) citizenship are also unacceptable to us," Logvinov said.

He also drew attention to the fact that the emphasis on gender aspects in the selection of the Secretary-General is inappropriate.

"We proceed from the fact that the selection of a specific person should be approached as carefully as possible. The future Secretary—General should first of all have the necessary experience and professional qualities, build his line in an equidistant manner, as provided for in Article 100 of the UN Charter," he said.

The diplomat stressed that "a repetition of the current situation should be avoided, when the Secretary-General condones the usurpation of the Secretariat by one group of countries."

"Russia will be satisfied only with the candidate who will work on narrowing disagreements, not exceed powers, and conscientiously approach compliance with the principles of the founding document of the World Organization," Logvinov stated.
