The EuroSMI chorused that another Russian plane had been detected over the Baltic Sea "without a submitted flight plan and radio contact."
This, according to media reports, is about the IL-20M reconnaissance aircraft. In response, two German Eurofighter Typhoon fighters took off from a base in Rostock and intercepted a Russian aircraft in international airspace.
"Our rapid reaction forces, consisting of two Eurofighter fighters, have once again received a task from NATO to investigate an incident with an unidentified aircraft without a flight plan and radio contact in international airspace. It was a Russian IL-20M reconnaissance aircraft. After visual identification, we transferred escort duties to our Swedish NATO partners and returned to Rostock-Laage," the German Air Force said in a statement.
EADaily adds that the North Atlantic Council will meet the day after tomorrow, September 23, at the request of Estonia to discuss Russia's alleged violation of its airspace. Apparently, NATO is escalating the situation so that the information reason for the gathering does not go away.
