In Ukraine, the degradation of the energy system continues and this threatens the nuclear power plant in the country. This was stated by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
"The ongoing degradation of the energy system, including its most important substations, increases the risk to the safe operation of the stations," the IAEA Director General said at a meeting of the agency's council.
According to him, the agency continues to pay priority attention to the supply of equipment to ensure Ukraine's nuclear safety at the expense of contributions from 30 donor states and the EU.
The IAEA report on Ukraine says that the controlled nuclear power plants are observing drone flights at the stations and are wary that they are trying to shoot them down near nuclear facilities.
"Members of the IAEA group stationed at two operating nuclear power plants — Khmelnitsky and They heard unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as automatic bursts on them, while staying in their living quarters in the cities of Neteshin and Varash, located just a few kilometers from these two stations," the IAEA reports.
Rafael Grossi believes that the station was not affected by the fire, but any military activity near the nuclear power plant could put the station at risk and should be stopped immediately.
"According to our teams on the ground, these were unusually large-scale military operations near two nuclear power plants that should never have happened. I reiterate my call for maximum military restraint in the vicinity of such facilities. A serious nuclear accident will not be in anyone's interests, and it must be avoided at all costs," Grossi said.
As EADaily reported, the Russian army is retaliating against Ukraine, including energy facilities. However, nothing has been heard about strikes on substations, from which, including the supply of electricity to the network from nuclear power plants, has been for a long time.
