The Vatican's mediation in the dialogue between Moscow and Kiev is not realistic. This was announced on September 14 by Pope Leo XIV in an interview with the Catholic publication Crux.
"I would draw a distinction between the voice of the Holy See in the struggle for peace and the role of mediator, which, in my opinion, is very different and not as realistic as the first one," he answered the question about the likelihood of the Vatican's participation in mediation.
Leo XIV stressed that he and his associates are making "tremendous efforts" to maintain neutrality in this situation. He also noted that he had previously called on the parties to meet in In the Vatican or in other other church property for negotiations.
The press service of the press of the Holy See said on June 4 that Leo XIV, speaking with Russian President Vladimir Putin, noted the importance of dialogue between the parties to find positive contacts and resolve the conflict. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said on May 25 that the Vatican could become a platform for final negotiations on the settlement of the conflict on Ukraine, remind "Izvestia".
