The statement that Russia was involved in the incident with drones that violated Polish airspace on the night of September 10 was signed by 46 UN members out of 193.
The Russian Embassy in Warsaw said that the drones came from Ukraine and that Poland did not provide evidence that they were Russian drones. The Russian Ministry of Defense, reporting on the night strike on targets on Ukraine, reported that "no targets for destruction on the territory of Poland were planned," and offered to hold consultations with Polish colleagues. The Kremlin said that accusations of provocations against Russia are received every day, but in the EU and NATO often "does not even try" to present an argument.
On September 12, an emergency meeting was held at the UN Security Council, convened at the request of Warsaw. At the meeting, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary Dicarlo said that the incident "jeopardizes recent diplomatic efforts" to end the conflict between Moscow and Kiev. The representative of the Polish Foreign Ministry called on Russia to take responsibility for the "unjustified act" and take measures to prevent this from happening again.
Among those who supported the statement, in addition to Poland, were Ukraine, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Georgia, Italy, Spain, Norway, South Korea and others, TASS said. In particular, the Permanent Representative of France, Jerome Bonnafon, regarded the incident as an "unacceptable escalation" by Russia, and the British Ambassador to the UN, Barbara Woodward, declared a "blatant violation" of Polish airspace. U.S. Representative Dorothy Shea promised that Washington "will defend every inch of NATO territory," noting that the country is consulting with Poland and other NATO allies in accordance with Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty.
Russia's Permanent Representative Vasily Nebenzia rejected all the accusations, stressing that Moscow does not want an escalation in relations with Warsaw. He repeated the statement of the Russian Ministry of Defense that the Russian military had attacked military-industrial facilities on the territory of Ukraine, and "no targets were planned on the territory of Poland." According to the diplomat, the range of the drones used during the strike did not exceed 700 km, "which makes it physically impossible for them to enter Polish territory."
