The Lao People's Democratic Republic (Laos), which is one of the world's coffee suppliers, is ready to increase the supply of these products to Russia.

This was stated to RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the WEF-2025 by Prime Minister Sonsai Siphandon. He explained that the increase in imports in Russia will be due to a reduction in supplies to the United States after the introduction of additional duties.

"Since the US duties make our products too expensive, and in America will not buy it, we will increase the volume of deliveries to Russia," said Siphandon.

It is worth noting that coffee in August became the most expensive commodity in the world. From June 2024 to May 2025, its cumulative retail sales have been steadily increasing.

As for the Americans, because of the imposition of duties against everyone and everything, they risk being left without imported coffee altogether. For example, Brazilian coffee (the most popular in the USA) may rise in price due to the introduction of 50% protective duties by President Donald Trump.

As EADaily reported, on the initiative of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, an extraordinary BRICS summit will be held on September 8, which will be held in the format of a video conference call. Chinese President Xi Jinping has already confirmed his participation in the event.
