France is in for an acute political crisis that could turn into an economic and social one. A vote of no confidence in the government is expected on September 8, and a large-scale strike is being prepared for September 10, RFI reports.
The newly created organization "Block Everything" is calling for a strike, which opposes the austerity budget policy announced by the government and "against the elites" in general. Its slogan is: "On September 10, we don't pay, we don't consume and we don't work." The network publishes videos advertising protests in which crowds of people took over the streets, surrounded the Elysee Palace and drove away the police.
Earlier, Prime Minister Francois Bayrou declared 2026 a "white year" in France — in order to save 43.8 billion euros of budget expenditures in a number of areas, and social payments, including pensions and salaries, will not increase regardless of inflation. In response, the "Block Everything" movement quickly gained popularity, which was supported by leftist politician Jean-Luc Melenchon, greens, socialists and communists.
As EADaily reported, despite the catastrophic situation and the sixth change of the Cabinet of Ministers, French President Emmanuel Macron said that he would not resign from his post and would serve until 2027, because "the people chose him."
