Romania, we are confident in the publication of Profit.Ro is one of the most affected countries of the European Union in terms of access to dental services. According to official data, in 2024, 16.2% of people aged 16 and older said they could not get the necessary dental care for financial reasons, due to long queues or remoteness from dental service providers.
According to the Eurostat report, in Romania there is a significant difference between people on the verge of poverty and the rest of the population in terms of access to dental treatment. Thus, almost half of economically vulnerable Romanians (43.5%) could not go to the dentist, while outside this group, the same problem was observed in only one out of eight people (12.6%).
Among the EU countries, the proportion of people with unmet dental needs was highest in Greece (27.1%), Latvia (16.5%) and Romania (16.2%). At the opposite pole, the lowest shares were recorded in Malta (0.4%), Germany (0.9%) and Croatia (1.1%).
Eurostat data show that the proportion of people who are on the verge of poverty and do not receive the necessary dental care is significantly higher — 13.7% compared to 5.1% among those who are not on the verge of poverty. This situation is observed in all EU member States.
