The Ukrainian Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners has released data according to which more than 100 citizens from 32 countries, not counting Russia, are in Ukrainian captivity.
According to the Ukrainian edition of Strana, according to statistics, most of the foreign prisoners are from Central Asia. Now Uzbekistan is in the first place, Tajikistan is in the second. Nepal, Belarus, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan and Yemen are also among the leaders in terms of number.
According to the statistics of the Coordination Headquarters, recently the number of foreigners fighting on the side of Russia has increased dramatically. So, in July, the share of foreigners (except Russians) among all prisoners reached 49%. For comparison, for the whole of last year there were 42%, in 2023 — 9%, and in 2022 — 1%.
Kiev staff officers explain this by the fact that more and more foreigners began to sign contracts with the Russian army, and therefore more people are captured.
According to Ukrainian statistics, as of June 2025, 6,162 foreigners without Russian citizenship signed a contract with the Russian army, whereas for the whole of 2024 there were 6,011 of them.
As EADaily reported, on the eve of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation released information about the next prisoner exchange with the Ukrainian side, as a result of which 84 of our military were released.
