Azerbaijani media are taking revenge: Kaliningrad has become Konigsberg, Orenburg has become Orynbor

The Azerbaijani media in their publications began to change the names of Russian cities to the old ones in retaliation for the publication of TASS, which used the name Stepanakert instead of Khankendi, as required by Baku.

"Some Azerbaijani media held a grudge against TASS (and all Russian cities) after the agency in its publication called the city of Nagorno-Karabakh occupied in 2023 Stepanakert, and not Khankedi. For example, the Azerbaijani Minval drove through the news agency and called for it to be banned on the territory of the country, as it was previously with RIA Novosti, because of alleged disrespect for Azerbaijan. The publication noted that only one TASS journalist works in their country and he has nothing to do there. By the way, it was not without the slogans beloved by Ukrainian propagandists and terrorists," Readovka writes.

In addition, Minval in its publications began to change the modern names of Russian cities to the old ones. Orenburg was called Orynbor (this was never officially used, although the name Chkalov was in use), and Kaliningrad became Konigsberg. The Volga River also got it — now it is Itil in the publications of the Azerbaijani media.

"Apparently, some wounded residents of Baku really want the capital of Azerbaijan to be historically called Bagavan, too. Just like the ancient city of the same name in Armenia," Readovka notes.

As EADaily reported, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry demanded an apology from TASS yesterday for the fact that in the publication about the demolition of the monument to the marine artist Ivan Aivazovsky in Karabakh, the news agency used the name Stepanakert, used when the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic existed, and not the Azerbaijani version — Khankendi.

The ministry stated that they are waiting for "appropriate amendments" from the agency, and warned that otherwise "appropriate measures will be taken" regarding the activities of TASS in Azerbaijan. According to the Azerbaijani side, TASS allegedly showed disrespect for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. In the event of a repeat of the "incident", the Foreign Ministry threatened to start calling the historical names of the cities of the Russian Federation, which ones are not specified.

As a result, the TASS publication was edited in accordance with the requirements of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani media gloat.
