People's Artist of Russia film director Alexander Mitta died in Moscow at the age of 93. This was announced on July 14 by the artist's son Yevgeny Mitta in a social network.
"My dear dad passed away today. We love, we grieve," the message says.
Among Alexander Mitta's films are classics of Soviet cinema: "My friend, Kolka!", "Burn, Burn, my star", "Crew", "The Tale of how Tsar Peter Arapa married" and others.
As EADaily reported, at the end of June, the 92-year-old director became ill at home in Moscow, he lost consciousness, and an ambulance was called for him. Mitt then refused hospitalization. His condition worsened against the background of a stroke, the director's film school said at the time.
In July 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded the director with the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, III degree "for his great contribution to the development of Russian culture and art, many years of fruitful activity."
