The UN Security Council should be expanded to include the States of Asia, Africa and Latin America as permanent members. This was stated at the BRICS summit, which opened today in Rio de Janeiro, President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
"In order to overcome the crisis of confidence we are facing, we need to profoundly change the UN Security Council. To make it more legitimate, representative, effective and democratic. To include new permanent members from Asia, Africa and from Latin America, the Caribbean," said Lula da Silva, quoted by RIA Novosti.
This is necessary to ensure the survival of the UN, he said. Postponing this process means making the world less stable and more dangerous, the Brazilian president stressed.
