In the municipality of Santagna in Majorca, unknown persons put threatening inscriptions on dozens of German-owned shops and cars with German license plates. This is reported by the DPA agency with reference to the local police.
Among the inscriptions are "The Germans are out" and "Foreign buyers are going to hell," the Mallorca Zeitung newspaper notes.
Incidents of this kind have been recorded in more than 20 places in a community known as a favorite place for Germans to live on a Spanish island, said one of the victims.
"It's scary to feel such a wave of hatred after 34 years on the island where I pay taxes and employ nine people," the man quotes DPA.
Majorca is a popular resort among Germans, but in recent years locals have been increasingly dissatisfied with the influx of tourists and expats, writes the telegram channel "DW ❶ main". Thousands of demonstrators are taking to the streets to protest the housing shortage. Attacks on tourists are also reported.
