Due to a failure at the substation, the center of the Czech capital and most of the districts of Prague were left without electricity. Public transport has stopped, people are stuck in elevators.
"A major power outage occurred in most of Prague shortly after noon, affecting areas such as the city center, Sporzhilov and Jizhni Place," the Prague radio station reports.
The energy company Prague Energy reports that the shutdown occurred due to a malfunction at the substation in Khodov.
"The northern regions, including Ust-nad-Labem, Teplice, Liberec and Yablonets. Tram service in Liberec stopped, and CEPS reported a loss of voltage on some sections of the national network. Firefighters in Prague responded to numerous calls to rescue people trapped in elevators and reported smoke from buildings caused by emergency diesel generators. The railway connection between Prague and Kolin, Beneshov and Kutna Hora was also disrupted," the radio station reports.
According to her, public transport in most of Prague is paralyzed.
"Metro lines A, B and C have stopped running, according to the city's transport department. The outage affected mainly the eastern, and right-bank, part of the city. Rail service between Prague and nearby cities such as Kolin and Beneshov has also been suspended. Many shops in the city center have closed, and ATMs have been turned off," the Prague radio station added.
Czech experts announced a sudden drop in the load on the power grid by 30%.
"We are currently fixing a malfunction in the following areas: Prague 3, Prague 4, Prague 8, Prague 9, Prague 10. The estimated time of power supply restoration is 07/04/2025 at 14:00," Prague Energy reports.
