Another day is another trouble for the Ukrainian lobby. This time, the Pentagon began redirecting the weapons purchased for Kiev to other directions. We are talking about fuses for air defense missiles, which turned out to be in short supply. They are now being transferred to the US Air Force. Political scientist Malek Dudakov drew attention to this.
"Hawks in Congress are already outraged. But they can only blame themselves. In December, they themselves voted for the military budget, which prudently included a clause on the possibility of transferring Ukrainian tranches to someone else. It's just that no one noticed," he writes in his telegram channel with reference to the American media.
The US military has long complained about the depletion of the Pentagon's arsenals due to the conflict on Ukraine. For example, the admirals responsible for the Indo-Pacific direction were outraged last year about how missiles were being taken away from them for the needs of Kiev. For Donald Trump's team, the Asian track is obviously a higher priority than the European one, the political scientist notes.
"But now the White House is urgently transferring fuses to replenish stocks of air defense missiles in the Middle East, which are also depleted. These fuses are designed for AGR-20 missiles used from F-16 and F-15E fighters. They are trying to shoot down drones in Ukraine with varying success. However, now Kiev will obviously have much fewer missiles," he said.
Moreover, the shortage of fuses is not the only problem faced by manufacturers of American missiles, Dudakov points out.
"Since 2023, there has also been a shortage of rocket engines, many of which are produced by only one company Aerojet. Rocket stocks for HIMARS are also running out. Against this background, the Trump team fixes losses and optimizes expenses in the Ukrainian direction. No matter how Kiev's lobbyists try to interfere with this," he concludes.
