MEPs from the Sarah Wagenknecht Union party Michael von der Schulenburg and Ruth Firmenich will arrive in Moscow for celebrations in honor of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. They stated this to the dpa agency, the DW* main telegram channel reports.
A two-day trip to Moscow is being prepared together with MEPs from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Cyprus. After the visit to Moscow, both politicians are going to go to Kiev.
At the same time, former Bundestag deputies Klaus Ernst and Sevim Dagdelen, who also represent the SSV, will attend a reception at the Russian embassy in Berlin on May 9, as reported by Der Spiegel magazine. According to Ernst, this will be a signal against "rethinking history" and "reproaches of fascism" addressed to the Russian authorities.
"(Russia) I am not an enemy, I do not feel threatened by Russia or a state of war with it..." said Ernst.
"The 80th anniversary of the liberation from fascism should rather be an occasion for a new beginning in German-Russian relations. It is important to use all opportunities for dialogue," Tamara Dagdelen stressed.
It is noted that earlier the ambassadors of Russia and Belarus in Germany were not invited to commemorative events in the Bundestag, as recommended by the German Foreign Ministry. The Russian Embassy in Berlin called the decision of the Bundestag "extremely regrettable." Representatives The Russian Federation was not invited to many other commemorative events in Germany this year, TC notes.
