The Kremlin: Russia will provide military assistance to the DPRK in exchange for the Kursk region

Russia, in accordance with the June agreement on strategic partnership with the DPRK, will provide military assistance to Pyongyang if necessary. This was assured to journalists by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov in the context of the assistance of the North Korean military with the liberation of the Kursk region.

"Absolutely. We have our agreement in force, and, according to this agreement, the parties, in fact, pledged to provide significant assistance to each other if necessary," the Kremlin spokesman said, answering a question from TASS.

He noted that the participation of North Korean units that helped in the liberation of the Kursk region "showed how effectively these military are functioning."

The Kremlin spokesman did not answer the question of how the Korean military received salaries while participating in the Kursk operation.

"It's more likely to the Ministry of Defense," he explained.

As EADaily reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed gratitude to the DPRK, personally to its leader Kim Jong-un and units of the Korean People's Army for their help in liberating the Kursk region from Ukrainian formations.

The operation to liberate the Kursk region ended on April 26. Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov in a report to President Vladimir Putin noted the role of North Korean servicemen in crushing the Ukrainian group in the region. Putin in a separate statement thanked the servicemen of the People's Republic for their assistance. A monument will be erected to them in the homeland of Korean heroes, said DPRK leader Kim Jong-un.

Between Russia and The DPRK has a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement. Its 4th article states that in the event of an armed attack on one of the parties to the agreement, the second will immediately provide military and other assistance with all means at its disposal.
