Turkey will demand reimbursement of expenses from Azimut due to the fire in Antalya — lawyer

The authorities of the Republic of Turkey intend to demand reimbursement of expenses from Azimut Airlines due to a fire at Antalya Airport, which began after the Superjet landed in November 2024.

This was stated to RIA Novosti by lawyer Dzhandash Gyrol, who represents the interests of several passengers of the ill-fated Russian flight. They filed class action lawsuits against Azimut, accusing it of fraud and intentional accident.

At the same time, the Azimut company itself claims that nothing threatened the lives of passengers, since the liner itself was not on fire. The fuel ignited on the concrete, which leaked out of the fuel tank as a result of deformation after a rough landing of the aircraft.

The lawyer also said that the Turkish Ministry of Transport is conducting its own investigation into the incident, which is in the final stages.

The lawyer believes that based on the results of the investigation, the Turkish authorities will demand compensation from the company for fire extinguishing, maintenance. In addition, due to the incident there were interruptions in air traffic.

The publication notes that Antalya airport did not accept flights for more than seven hours the night after the fire, and departures were carried out from RUNWAY for military flights.

As EADaily reported, on the evening of November 24, 2024, after landing a Sukhoi Superjet 100-95LR aircraft flying from Sochi to Antalya, a fire started. The fire occurred in one of the engines, the fire was noticed after stopping on the runway.

According to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey, 95 people from the Azimut airline plane that caught fire at Antalya Airport were successfully evacuated.
